o o Speaker Bio: PJ Smyth   //  March 2008

If you cut PJ Smyth...he bleeds two things: leadership and empowerment. PJ's fascination with what makes a leader a leader began at school where he repeatedly found himself leading the charge. After university, he honed his teaching skills at a high school in rural Zimbabwe, and then aged 25yrs, founded his first church in Harare that grew to 1000 members in 5 years. Maintaining that there are fewer tougher leadership assignments than gathering and mobilizing 1000 non-paid volunteers in the gruelling context of a collapsing Zimbabwe, PJ decided to put his leadership principles to the test in the heart of Johannesburg, South Africa, where he started another volunteer church organization which in the last 3 years has grown to 700 members. Thus, PJ has established a philosophy of leadership via influence unreliant on money motivation. In his passion to help others put the lead back into leadership, PJ is an author and international speaker on matters of leadership, and has been a keynote speaker at the Newfrontiers Leadership Conference for the last five years in the UK, where 5000

leaders gather annually for leadership training. His book The World Need's More Leaders is the most popular leadership training manual within the global church movement of Newfrontiers. PJ and his wife Ashleigh have three sons, Jack (9), Ben (7) and Sam (4).
